How early to leave Paris for CDG
The right departure time is simple arithmetic once you know the pieces. Here is how to work it out for a flight from Charles de Gaulle.
In short
- Start from your airline’s recommended time at the airport, not from the flight time.
- The drive from central Paris normally takes 45–75 minutes; add a margin for rush hour.
- Check-in and boarding deadlines are set by your airline and remain the passenger’s responsibility.
The formula
Pickup time = flight departure − the time your airline recommends you to be at the airport − the drive − a safety margin. Each piece is easy to find; the mistake is to forget one of them.
1. Your airline’s advice
Airlines publish when check-in and bag drop close, and they recommend an arrival time at the airport. Many suggest about two hours before a European flight and about three hours before an intercontinental flight, but this varies by airline, terminal and season — always check your own booking confirmation.
2. The drive
From central Paris to Charles de Gaulle the drive normally takes 45–75 minutes. It is quietest at night and early in the morning and slowest on weekday mornings and late afternoons.
3. A safety margin
Add 30 to 45 minutes if you leave during rush hour, in bad weather, or when a strike or a large event is likely to affect the roads. A margin costs you a little waiting at the airport; a missing margin can cost you the flight.
A worked example
Illustration only: for an intercontinental flight at 12:00 from CDG, with an airline that asks you to be at the airport three hours before, you should be at the airport by 09:00. Allow 75 minutes for the drive and a 30-minute margin, and your pickup is at about 07:15.
Before you go
- Check your terminal and your airline’s deadlines in your booking confirmation.
- Complete online check-in if your airline offers it.
- Keep passports and boarding passes within reach.
- Tell your chauffeur-host your flight time when you book, and message us on WhatsApp if anything changes.
Quick answers
Who is responsible for check-in times?
The passenger. Airlines set the deadlines. We suggest a pickup time, but the final responsibility for arriving in time remains with the traveller.
Does the price change if I leave earlier?
No. The fixed price for the CDG transfer does not depend on traffic or on the time you choose within the booking.
