Driver-host or licensed guide — what is the difference?

Two roles that are often confused. Knowing which one you need keeps your day simple and on the right side of the rules.

In short

  • A driver-host drives, helps with your route and shares general information from the car.
  • Commentary inside museums and historic monuments usually requires a licensed guide-conférencier.
  • We keep the two roles separate and arrange a licensed guide on request.

The driver-host

A multilingual driver-host is a chauffeur who also looks after you: he plans the day with you, suggests stops, tells you about what you are passing and helps with luggage and the practical details. He speaks your language and stays with the car so that the day flows.

The licensed guide-conférencier

A guide-conférencier is a professional guide who holds the national professional card. In France, commercial guided visits with commentary inside museums and historic monuments are generally reserved to licensed guides. They bring depth — history, art, architecture — that a driver cannot and should not replace.

How we arrange it

Ask for a licensed guide when you request your quotation. We arrange the guide for your date and language and plan the day so that the car and the visit connect. The guide’s fee is quoted with the rest of the day, and entrance tickets are booked directly with the venue unless we agree otherwise.

Quick answers

Can the driver guide us inside a museum?

No. Commentary inside museums and historic monuments requires a licensed guide-conférencier. Your chauffeur-host is happy to advise before and after the visit.

Can I check the guide’s credentials?

Licensed guides hold a professional card. When your booking is confirmed we can share the guide’s details.
